Gadget: How To Install Google Camera For Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

I have read through the comments online about the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus camera which many find the photo quality is kinda mediocre. I personally agree too, after using the phone for awhile (no doubt the phone is superb), I realise that the color possessed tend to be red-ish and many times over sharpen.

To fix the problem, you can download alternative app such as Open Camera or Camera FV-5 in Google PlayStore. My personal choice will always be the Google Camera. The quality of photos taken is superb and I like the how the photos possessed, not too overdose. My favourite function for Google Camera is Lens Blur and can save image file as RAW too beside of JPG. The only drawback I can think of is the resolution ratio is limited to 4:3 and 16:9 only which is against my personal favourite choise 3:2. But hey, it's a problem right as long it takes great images.

After many failed attempts, I finally discover a solution for a stable and working Google Camera Mod. I am more than happy to share with you how to install in your Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Just a disclaimer, please do it at your own risk, you might brick the phone. Despite my success in installing the Google Camera app in my phone, I do not guarantee the same outcome for your phone.

Step To Install Google Camera For Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

Step 1) You need to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root the phone first. Without these 3 elements, it won't work properly. Trust me. You may google the steps on how to do it.

Step 2) The first step will take you some time especially for permission to unlock bootloader, I waited for 360 hours after getting approval from Xiaomi to unlock the bootloader. Let's say you are done with the Step 1, you need to download these stuffs below and save it in your phone storage or a memory card.

a. Download Magisk Manager : https://goo.gl/qnRZhA
b. Download Google Camera 2 API : https://goo.gl/DkgoMK
c.  Download Antibootlop_R5Plus.zip : https://goo.gl/XGFZbi

Once downloaded, you need to install these 3 files via TWRP Recovery (turn off your phone, press power + volume UP, you will see TeamWin screen, choose INSTALL and select the file one by one). Reboot the phone after the installation.

Step 3) Download Google Camera apk here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/MGCB_7.0H_C2API_v.4.0_AllinOne_Full_Manual.apk (do note I recommend this apk as it's the more stable one compare to many other version) and Voila, you are all good to go!

In order to have better experience with Google Camera, I suggest you to follow the steps here.

I hope you enjoy the Google Camera app on your phone and have lots of wonderful memories from now on :)

These are the photos I took with Google Camera. I apologize as I do not have proper comparison between stock camera and the Google Camera, but do rest assured, the quality taken with Google Camera is really so much better. You may click to enlarge the Google Camera sample images below:-
